About ASSC-CDSA

The Canadian Deaf Sports Association (ASSC-CDSA) was incorporated in 1964 under the name “Federation of Silent Sports of Canada Inc” and now operates as a registered charity under the name of Canadian Deaf Sports Association.

The objectives of the CDSA are as follows :

  • To encourage the development and affiliation of Provincial and Territorial Deaf Sports Associations (PDSAs) within Canada;
  • To encourage the development and affiliation of National Deaf Sports Organizations (NDSOs) within Canada;
  • To select and train, with the assistance of the PDSAs, NDSOs and Sport Committees, deaf athletes who meet the requirements for participating in international competitions, especially the Panamerican Games for the Deaf, the Deaflympics and/or the World Deaf Championships;
  • To promote and facilitate the practice of amateur sports among deaf athletes in Canada; and
  • To promote and facilitate High Performance sport programs for the Deaf community of all ages within Canada as stipulated in CDSA's standards.

International Events

The Deaflympics Preparation Committee (DPC-CDSA and the CDSA Permanent Committee) give the athletes the opportunity to receive training and to participate in international competitions. In the course of the year preceding the Deaflympics and Pan-American Games for the Deaf, the DPC-CDSA works to select and to train these athletes with national try-outs, in collaboration with national uni-sport organizations, training personnel and selected officials.

The CDSA Pan-American Games for the Deaf Youth's Preparation Committee and the CDSA Board of Directors offer a competition program for the Deaf Youth. Its purpose is to organize the Canadian Games for the Deaf youth, to acquire the best of the athletes who will go to the Pan-American Games for the Deaf Youth.

Eligibility

The Deaflympics, Pan-Am Games and International Games participants need:

  • To be deaf, with an hearing loss of at least 55 dB in the best ear (medium frequency of 3 tones in 500, 1000 and 2000 hertz, ISO 1969 Standard). An ICSD official audiogram is mandatory.
  • To be a Canadian citizen
  • To have a valid passport
  • There is no age limit for the contestants. However, age restriction be applied for certain sports or events, as stated in the Sports International Confederations' regulations.
