CDG Selection Criteria

The Canada Deaf Games were created and then approved by all of the members of the Canadian Deaf Sports Association, with the attempt to consolidate all Canadian Deaf Championships and to become financially responsible, improve on the quality of services provided to Deaf Canadians, to give national team coaches an opportunity to scope and select potential national team athletes and to give all deaf Canadians an opportunity to compete in a national multi-sporting event that captures, high levelled sport competitions, the deaf culture, social interaction, by mirroring the Jeux du Canada Games model. We feel this will give all deaf athletes the feeling of camaraderie of being involved in a high-levelled sporting event, an opportunity to be identified for national teams, and give the NDSO`s and the CDSA an opportunity to see all potential national team athletes of the present and of the future.

Age eligibility: The minimum age for competing at the Canada Deaf Games is 16. But, athletes who are 15 at the time of the 2012 CDG’s event are allow to compete, if they will be age 16 for the next international event.

IMPORTANT:

Selection rule: As the CDSA policy states, athletes must compete in the Canada Deaf Games to become eligible for selection on national teams for following international events after the 2012 CDG.
